Silk is not the easiest material to make, which makes it a high-demand fabric that Diva’s everywhere want to wear. Silk feels amazing on the skin. It is also very durable. In fact, some parachutes are even made of silk! Silk should not just be thrown on with anything. This is one classy material that you need to know how to wear – – like a Diva.
Pros and Cons of Wearing Silk
Besides it being lovely and elegant, silk also has some surprising benefits for women who wear them on any occasion. Silk underwear is amazing for women’s health as the irritation is minimal. In other types of clothes, silk reduces skin irritation, allergies, and it soothes the skin. However, for fewer practical reasons, silk is amazing as it turns every wardrobe combination into a classy one.
The main downside of wearing silk is the maintenance of these garments. They should be prewashed separately from other clothing, in case of bleeding. They also need to be air dried. You cannot iron them in high temperatures as they easily lose the color and the shape. Another downside of this beautiful fabric, is, of course, its price because real silk is not cheap.
How to Wear Silk
Dresses are not the only silk garments to wrap yourself in. There are silk blouses, pants, skirts, and accessories such as scarves.
One piece that should be a staple in every woman’s closet is the plain, white, silk blouse. There are numerous occasions that it can be worn. When used with a blazer, it can be worn as a perfect business attire. Wear the blouse with fashionable jeans, and you will have an easy to assemble casual outfit. Throw on a long necklace and be ready for a casual after hours event. Also, consider a silk scarf, as it will save the day for many occasions. You can wear a silk scarf with any type of blouse or a tank, to give it a fresh, elegant look. It is a timeless accessory that works wonders to change up your style.
Wearing Silk in the Summer
If you weren’t aware…the Boho chic look is back, and with it, all those lovely summer dresses and romantic styles that can be pulled off using silk. Long, maxi dresses made with silk or having silk details will not just bring in some romantic style, but they will also be amazing wear as they are thin and perfect for the summer temperatures.
Another remarkably cool thing to wear this summer is the silk kaftans. Pick a nice beach kaftan and be amazed how well they work as a classy cover for your swimwear or as a bit more casual wear with denim shorts.
Silk is an amazing and wonderful material. There is a reason many cultures regarded silk as the ultimate fabric. Once you start using it, you realize that, and you never look at another fabric with the same eyes again.
What is your favorite silk piece?
I remember my first time wearing silk (or at least I think it was silk lol). My prom dress was homemade, by a family friend and I remember being ever so careful not to spill any of my meal or drink on it. Low and behold, I was so nervous with my date, I spilled a whole glass of water down the front of my dress. Luckily it dried off quicker than I thought it would! :/

I like wearing silk because it shows elegance every time. It’s a classic garment that most riches wear. Long, maxi dresses made with silk will really feel comfortable and soft to the skin. It’s perfect for summer!
I’m vegan, so I’ve never bought or worn silk products before. But I read an article the other day about more and more silk manufacturers adopting a new trend that doesn’t hurt (or in most cases, kill) the silkworm! So I might be able to wear it in the future. I confess I have always wanted to, as it is so soft. 🙂

I have not worn silk much in the past. It’s one of those materials that have worried me about wrinkling when we travel. These are great tips on how to wear silk; I do love how it feels on the skin when I have worn it.
Wearing silk really isn’t my style of clothing, I really like wearing more clothes than the the summer outfit picked out. Now I had a silk sheets set that’s about as silky as it gets.

I think the only silk garments I have ever worn are night dresses and underwear. I love the feeling of silk though and it’s such a cooling material so it’s perfect for the summer. I love the look of the beach dress in the picture above. I’ll have to look for silk pieces whilst doing my summer clothes shopping.
I don’t own a whole lot of silk … I find it kind of hot and uncomfortable. I think the only things I typically wear that are silk are my robe and some underwear. Once I got silk sheets, but I couldn’t stand them! Maybe I’ll have to try adding more silk pieces though… just slowly.

I would have never thought that parachutes could be made out of silk…that’s interesting, but also seems like such a waste because it feels so good on the skin. Maintaining silk is difficult at times, and I’ve cried a few times over bleeding colors. My favorite type of silk item is pajamas!

How fun! I love silk, its just so soft and comfortable. Personally I don’t really wear much silk but my favorites are probably PJs/robes and silk scarves. Something about them is that they just are so luxurious! Thanks for sharing this with us, I will definitely try to incorporate this with my yearly wardrobe!
I’ve always stayed away from silk, mostly because I am so afraid of fabric that is hard to care for. Plus, I know how terrible I am about taking care of clothes but these are great tips, especially for someone so scared of silk like I am. I think if I had to chose a silk piece (which I would like to own) probably a silk night gown.
